I know, I know, marketing is all about you not me but in this case I just wanted to do a quick backgrounder on my internet marketing experience to give a bit of grounding to this blog.

Back in about 2001 I started printing out and reading Yanik Silver internet marketing books as well as Corey Rudl and Declan Dunn and any other stuff I could find. I still have a binder with a lot of stuff in a box somewhere.

In 2003 I got a Palm Tungsten that had MP3 capability and around the same time I started a blog or two and finally got myself going. I think that one of my early problems was not acting on what I had learned and compressing all the learning in that MP3 player really quickly on too many subjects.

With tons of knowledge from anything I could find about internet marketing and at the same time getting my feet wet meant that I tried every scam out there but spent very little to do it.

I had a blog with just Book Reviews, I started about 5 Amazon book stores and then a couple of clickbank malls. I used RSSG to build a bunch of sub domains of spammy content and of course a lot of blogs and article marketing, I really like the simplistic publishing of blogs. Finally one of my big things in the last year was the compiling of a Realtor Marketing book that sold horribly to my expectations so I have even unsuccessfully published.

Now over the last year I have come to some realizations about the crap that we get from the Gurus of internet marketing and how some things make sense but most of it is just old crap that will not work anymore. Also I have had enough of a look at the black hat crowd to know that I am not interested in making a 100 sites a month to make a 1000 bucks a month. So it comes down to extending on what I have and start with more new carefully planned strategies.

So if you look at my history especially over the last three years or so I have tried almost everything and at the present have about 85 sites of various kinds. wow, 85 sites should make you a lot of money right? Well not exactly, I am making only about $1000 or so per month and to hit my $100,000 in the end of 2008 I will need to increase that to $8333 as a monthly average. We all know that January will not be a big month likely so I will have to make things up as the months goes on.

I do not want to do any planning in this post but just wanted to lay out the where I have been kind of stuff.

I started out building websites back in about 1998 I guess, with Microsoft Publisher, and although things have changed a lot since those days I still find the process of building a website interesting and exciting. I almost never open Microsoft Publsiher anymore unless it is to make a tag for my wifes scrapbooking projects and I now have settled on Wordpress.

The move from just static sites to blogs took a while but a few years ago I started a couple of blogger blogs and then moved up to my own Movable Type installation and now I have transferred almost everything to Wordpress. Wordpress to me is fantastic because the software gives me options that would take years for me to develop myself.

You don’t believe me? Well here is a list of why Wordpress is king:

1. Easy to install - I have installed Wordpress a few times and all I need is hosting, a MySQL database (included with my hosting) FTP access and a web browser to do the click click click thing. No problems and it works all the time as long as the host is stable.

2. Lots of themes - No matter what kind of look that you want for your site, someone has created that look as a wordpress theme, just download, unzip, upload and select

3. Lots of plugins - There are plugins for everything from autoblogging to RSS and tagging and I am finding more and  more useful Wordpress plugins everyday. I search Google and find what I need.

4. Consistency and process flow - If I find a new extension or a new SEO method that I can use or even a new theme (as I did with Manidog that i use here), I can quickly go through all of my blogs and add that change easily to all of them at once. I set up a little process flow and 10 minutes later I am done. I even use a little process to upgrade Wordpress itself when I upgrade and this way nothing is ever missed.

Since everything is in Wordpress and my Firefox has links to all of my blogs it is very easy for me to add content when it is time for that and to update and upgrade when it is time for that and the two never have to meet. If I find something great to post I just post it and move on. There are no HTML tags to worry about and no uploading process so the new content is a thought and a click and that allows me to be a lot more creative.

Have you ever heard of PLR Private label rights products? Usually when you hear about these it is on one of the big Internet Marketing boards like Warrior forum of Digital Point and it usually seems like a great deal. You get to buy some books or a series of a 1000 articles or something that you can reuse for whatever you want.

First thing you should ask yourself when you see these PLR articles for instance is why are they so cheap? Often when you are buying a lot of articles you will find that they have been listed in Google on tons of sites and so they are useless content. If you want a lot of content on your sites you want stuff that no one has seen yet so that you can rank high in Google or submit the articles to ezine articles to bring you traffic.

The only PLR that I like to buy is articles in my niche that i am working in that are a bit more expensive, lets say 2-5 bucks an article. If you are going to pay this much then you are going to more than likely get an unused article that you can rank with. Ask the seller for some sample text and then do a google search for that text in quotes “this is the text” and see if any results come up. Read the rest of this entry »

Well I originally started the internet business blogger blog so that I could teach people how to make more money on the internet. Well it didn’t work out so well, so I am starting over.

The blog is now going to change direction. I have been trying over the last few years to make money on the internet and now I have decided to open everything up to the internet to watch as I stumble along and see how successful 2008 can become.

I have been an internet marketer for about three years now and have steadily made more money every year but still I am only making around $1,000 per month. My new goal for next year (2008) will be to make $100,000 in the 12 months.

Well first of all why should you care what I am going to do? Well almost all of the “gurus” will tell you exactly what you think that you need to hear so that they can make sales and most of the crap for sale is two year old strategies that don’t work anyway. I will be posting exactly what works for me and what does not, I will add content of what you need to know and why to make money on the internet. Read the rest of this entry »
