OK, really sorry but I am so slow today. I have been playing with all of the betas of the new WordPress 3.0 and now yeaterday I missed the official launch.

You can see all of the new features here:

The best new features of wordpress are the new custom menus and also the WordPress MU, the multi users multi blog version although I am not a autoblogger so the multiuser is soemthing that I could care less about myself.

The other great feature I think in WordPress 3.0 is the updates all being in one place so that you can update versions in the future as well as plugins without having to worry about your blog going down.

What are your favorite features of the new WordPress 3.0?

Pop under traffic is considered to be very low quality traffic. The average cost for pop under traffic is about $15 for 10,000 visitors and $90 for 50,000 visitors. With such low prices you can estimate that the quality of this traffic would be poor. In fact it is not uncommon for every single pop under visitor to result in a non-action – that is they will not buy or click anything on your site.

There is little point purchasing 100,000 visitors to your site if not one of them buys your product, clicks your Adsense ad or makes an action through your CPA form. You are simply wasting your money. Countless webmasters have conducted tests with pop under traffic with little luck when it comes to return on investment. In many cases it would only take one affiliate sale to make the money back on the traffic investment cost; however this rarely occurs due to the low quality of the traffic sent.

Why is pop under traffic so bad? The main reason is that it is completely untargeted. There is no demographic targeting or anything that would result in an increased chance of conversion. Some testers have stated that pop under traffic can work if there is a lot of it. This can mean purchasing hundreds of thousands of visitors in order to make just one or two sales. It has to be asked whether it is worth the money and effort required, or if the money is best spent elsewhere. Indeed, if 100,000 visitors were to be generated from a much more targeted source it could result in a conversion rate of 5% or more compared with a 0% conversion rate from targeted traffic.

Here are some prices for several pop under traffic providers:

i-web-marketing.com: 20,000 visitors for $149

EasySiteHits.com: 10,000 visitors for $89.95

WebHitsDirect.com: 10,000 visitors for $89.95

SiteGadgets.com: 1000 visitors for $2

People buy pop under traffic mainly through impatience – it results in almost immediate traffic. If you still choose to proceed with a pop under traffic campaign, make sure you track your statistics in order to confirm that you are receiving the traffic number stated. You should also ensure that the pop under provider has a money back guarantee if they do not provide the stated unique visitor numbers as outlined on their website.

Pop under traffic is otherwise known as ‘junk traffic’ and with good reason. For this reason it is best to spend your time and money on more reliable sources of traffic such as organic search engine traffic and pay per click advertising.

Blog comments can be a hidden goldmine. Leaving blog comments on other popular blogs can bring extreme traffic to your own blog or web site.
There are several reasons why you should leave blog comments on related niche blogs. These include to encourage traffic to your own website by leaving your URL in the comment, by increasing the number of links back to your site and to establish yourself in the niche as an active expert. If you succeed at all three of these goals then blog commenting can result in more traffic than many other methods.

It is no longer enough to leave very short, unhelpful comments on blogs with your URL. This is now seen as spam and as adding no value to the blog in question. In many cases, certainly on all good blogs, these short comments are not approved. That means you are completely wasting your time. Instead your time should be spent thoroughly immersing yourself in the blog comment conversation. Most blogs now encourage discussion of a blog post or issue and this can go on for many days or even weeks. By continually adding your comments and linking to your site through your name, you will encourage reader to click through and hopefully subscribe to your blog too.

The best way to see if blog commenting is working for you is to check your website statistics. Are any of the referring URL’s from blog comments you have left? If so, it is working well. Blog commenting has the ability to bringing traffic for many years, provided the blog stays online and comments are not deleted. When you look at it that way, it is very worthwhile taking time to write well thought out comments, almost mini articles in some cases.

Tips for Leaving Blog Comments

Your blog comments should be helpful and detailed. As mentioned, one liners simply don’t work anymore. The key is to find the line between getting to the point and providing just enough information for people to see that you know what you’re talking about and as such to gain curiosity as to what your own website or blog is about.

Rambling comments are not the way to go as people will skip through them. A comment of 100-150 words gives you enough space to make a counter argument or opinion and generate some more responses that you can too comment on in future posts.

Blog commenting is a highly effective traffic generation method and one that you should consider dedicating time to.

Blogging is an enjoyable task and these days most internet marketers have a personal blog on which they share tips, ideas and subtle product promotions. But can blogging land you in legal trouble? Records indicate that there have been over 150 court actions, both civil and criminal, against bloggers from 2004. There has also been rumor of many more cases of settlements and silence threats before the cases reached court. So what is going on in the blogosphere and how can you keep yourself out of legal trouble?

There is no doubt that the vast majority of bloggers is doing the right thing and will never become embroiled in legal issues. In any case, there are over 70 million blogs predicted to be online so the number of cases is tiny in proportion. But is this number large enough to scare bloggers out of free speech and into censorship? Should bloggers have to alter their site content or even remove controversial content? That is a question many bloggers are now asking.

In reality, blogging is no different than putting a regular website online. Sure, blogging makes it easy to post content to and they are generally updated more regularly than normal sites but the possibility exists that controversial content can be posted anywhere online, not just on blogs.

Some examples that can land you in legal trouble include making threats on your blog directed at anyone else (even if you don’t believe they read your blog), harassing others either directly or indirectly and even making comments that are racist or criticize religions or cultures. Basically if someone reads your blogs and doesn’t like what they read, becomes offended or is just plain in a bad mood, there is the small possibility they will seek action against you.

Revealing state or national secrets is another no, no, as is releasing corporate secrets. If you are in a position to have this knowledge then keeping it to yourself is your best bet unless you want a legal battle.

Copyright infringement is a major problem online but it is highly unlikely copyright material will make it into a court of law. Nonetheless it is possible for this to occur.

Overall there is no real need for bloggers to fear writing what they wish. Keeping in mind the age old laws about copyright infringement, liability and other legal hot spots, bloggers can remain censorship free and worry free throughout their blogging careers.

The best way to retain a constant flow of traffic to your blog is to get your readers hooked. Once you have a loyal bunch of readers who hang on your every word and can not wait for your next post, you can call yourself a successful blogger. So how do you get your readers hooked on your blog? These 10 quick tips will show you the way.

Surprise Your Readers
People love the unexpected. Make yourself unpredictable by doing things differently once in a while. This could be taking a new direction, using video or just simply something you don’t normally do. This keeps people interested.

Be Funny
Most bloggers are overly serious so being humorous can make your blog stand out. Blogs should be entertaining and not full and readers should not fall asleep reading your posts.

Predict the Future
Occasionally you can use your knowledge to make some bold claims about the future related to your niche topic. People will take notice, particularly if you have some authority on the subject.

Be Honest
People can pick a liar from a mile off; they can also pick those who are skirting around the truth. Telling the absolute truth is bound to gain attention.

Tell Stories
People love stories and stories can put a lot of weight behind your posts. Think up some great short stories and post them once a month or so. People will look forward to these posts as part of your schedule.

Break The News
If you can be the first to break a story, then your blog will be linked to like crazy. Stay on top of events to put yourself in this envious position.

Use Pictures
Pictures can tell a thousand words. They can also be used to entertain. Why not find a funny picture to go with a special post once per week?

Disprove Facts
If other bloggers are all talking about a particular topic but you can prove its wrong, do it! Being controversial gains you attention.

Put Readers First
Readers want to feel special. Write for them and you will be rewarded.

Quality over Quantity
Rather than post 3 unexciting posts per day, cut down to a few times per week and make them longer, more interesting and well researched posts. These posts will stay around a lot longer than short, meaningless blog posts.

These ten hot tips are great ways to get your readers hooked to your blog as well as attract new readers.

I have been working with a series of spreadsheets and a firefox plugin to track my Google rankings and it has worked out all right until I just found a slightly better process recently. Here is the only way that I knew of to track the rankings.

Micro Niche Finder – I look deep into my sites niche and look at what the best quality keywords are. I look for the highest traffic words with the lowest and weakest competition. Micro Niche Finder has helped me for over a year find keywords with little competition and to also find untapped markets or sub-niches that I have not though were useful.

SEO Book Rank Checker – I start with the SEO Book Rank Checker firefox plugin and look at the keywords that I am targeting. I can type in all my keywords and the domain that they are from and then let the plugin grab my rankings. Even though you can only enter in 50 keywords at a time I just copy in sets of 50 and get 100 keywords in there. The rankings that are kicked out are great for seeing where I stand or even if I am ranking at all for a keyword. If not I can write and get backlinks to that keyword

Microsoft Excel – I export those initial Micro Niche Finder keywords into a CSV file which I then save as an Excel spreadsheet and then every day when I rerun the rankings in the SEO Book Rank Checker I can then paste those results of keyword ranking, and page that is ranking into the spreadsheet.

This method has worked well for the last few months and has really uncovered where I am failing in my rankings but I believe that I have found a great service that will get rid of the SEO Book Rank Checker as well as the spreadsheet and that is SEO Cockpit which is a cheap internet based service that will track keywords and backlinks quickly and easily. SEO Cockpit will take my keywords and domain and tell me my rankings every day or two and also give me that added advantage of seeing how many backlinks I have for a given page. This is a fantastic time saver and will now be helping me generate content and backlinks instead of wondering why my rankings are not as good as I would like.

I have a bit of respect for the code that I can write and understand in HTML and PHP although I am not and kind of coder really.

I bought a WordPress template that has a great “single” page that involves WordPress Custom Fields and Tabber to make a beautiful review page. I use the WordPress Post Template plugin on most of my blogs so that I can add reviews easily as a new page without having to recode every post that is a review. The plugin is pretty slick and a huge timesaver in this way.

The trouble with this review page in the theme that I bought is that it is tightly linked with the WordPress theme and I am having trouble coding this page in HTML instead of the PHP that a WordPress template is coded with. A job that looked like 1 hour is now looking like five and one of my real problems is that I think that I know the tech well enough that I will waste a lot of time to try to make this work.

I shouldn’t

So now I am taking this time to make this post so that I can decide what to do. I should go to elance and get someone to code is but I think that what I am going to do instead is email the guy that created the theme and see what he would charge to make this page work, a third option is to just leave what I have now and not make these changes but there is no real way that I could let myself continue using sustandard review pages now that I have found something that would work so much better.

I use a plugin on many of my WordPress blogs that is called “what would Seth Godin do” The plugin is fantastic for showing something different to now visitors then returning visitors.

The basics of the plugin is that when someone new comes to your site they will get a message on the top of the post as a welcome and to let people know what you would want to let them know about and at least introduce them.

I have now noticed that there is a secondary part of this plugin that actually will give returning visitors to your site another message that you would like to remind them of.

Try out the plugin and think of the things that you would like to tell new people to your site about. You can give things like:

Info on your RSS feed

A free download of some kind

A listbuidling tool

Your favorite posts

There are lots of others probably. What do you think? Can you think of other things that you would like to alert your visitors about.

I find myself treading water lately as I try to pick up traffic and more affiliate revenue. I have seen for years now that if I take solid action towards increasing my income that it takes a month or two to actually manifest and during that time I always feel uneasy becasue I ma working hard with no payback.

Have I mentioned before that doing and thinking about doing are not the same thing?

I tend to do some of those stupid things that are spinning wheels, things like reading books, surfging blog posts, reading an writing lots of Twitter messages but these are not really work, the things that are work are

Posting

Creating content

Blog post commenting

Traffic Generation in all forms

Creating sales funnels

Most other stuff is crap. Well I seem to have tried to move off of the other stuff and am now back to creating lots of content and I have to admit it is initially tough, but it does get easier as you get the flow of it.
