Ever wonder where you can find out how many people are searching for something so that you can pick a niche a little bit easier? Well one tool that is great is Google Trends. Google Trends is a tool that Google offers to allow you to see what the relative volume of searches is.
Google Trends does not give you actual search numbers but there is a way to figure the numbers by relating them to each other.
Lets say that you rank number one for a termand get 100 page views a day for that term. Go to Google Trends and search for that term and you will get a graph. Now put a comma after that term and a new search term and voila’ a relation between them is now there. This in itself has been a great tool for me to just fiddle with and get a good idea of what is going on in peoples heads.
Remember though that this can be a bit of a fake out. If you do a search for an internet marketing term or a term that internet marketers may be searching for, like “make money online”, or even “buy viagra” then you are going to find other marketers searches (not just buyers or browsers) muddying up the search volume.
Google Insights for search is an extension on Google Trends. What Google insights gives you is not only the graph or relational graph between two terms but also it will give you popular related terms and the rising terms in comparison. This is truly fantastic as most people have had to rely on doing searches through Google Adwords up to now for this info.
I did the following search for make money online in Google Insights for Search and look at the results page. A wealth of information.
Google Insights looks like the new version of Google Trends, look for trends to disappear and Google Insights for serach to become the popular method for finding and targeting related keywords in niches.
