Well yesterday I finished off a weekend long process of optimizing the SEO on my Wordpress blogs.
First of all, this weekend I only worried about on page optimizing as I have less control over off page optimizing although i am always looking for more links to my good pages.
So yesterday afternoon and last night I looked at every one of my review pages and optimized a few things
Page Title - Wordpress has two ways that it makes a page title, the post slug, which is the name of the URL, the .html of the page and the page title itself. If you change the URL then all of your links into your page will be broken - not good. I did however optimize the page titles to include only or almost only the keywords that I wanted to optimize for.
Header tags - I have all of my post use the page title as a <H1> tag. I also tried to break up text to use the <H2> and in some cases <H3> tags. This makes the page more readable and better for the visitor as well as telling search engines what is important about your pages.
Keyword density - I know that this is a tough one. I found that i was not using the keywords that I was optimizing for on each of my review pages, sometimes not at all. I added some keyword density to all of the pages.
Cleaning up reviews - Some of the reviews were a little messy and I tried to make them cleaner and flow better. Optimizing for the end user not the search engines in this case

I am not sure how I missed this yesterday but Wordpress has been updated to version 2.5. The new version of wordpress adds lots of new features but is a real departure from what you are used to.
As an internet marketer you may want to wait until next weekend or a slow night this week sometime so that you can upgrade and get used to the interface. The last thing that you want to do is upgrade and have to take a hit on your productivity or suffer with nonworking plugins.
After you try it out let me know what you think. New streamlined interface, picture galleries within posts…what else do you like.

Do you write dry content? I know that i have been accused of just that in the past. I just found a free Firefox plugin called Zemanta that adds a bit of a sidebar applet to your Wordpress Write window that gives you one click access to adding pictures and links to articles. On a meta basis it will also add ideas for keywords and of course this may help give you more ideas for the articles and posts that you are writing in Wordpress. Best of all it does all of this on the fly.
Installation of this Firefox plugin is of course very easy. Just go to the link, download the add-on and then after Firefox is restarted you will notice nothing new until you go into write a new blog post, then Zemanta sitting is in the right hand side of your Firefox as if it was a piece of Wordpress. This will be one many articles about Wordpress when it comes to internet marketing. Wordpress although it is a blogging platform is in reality a great way to easily add content to the internet that can not be beat for ease of use, simplicity, SEO and power for driving traffic through Web 2.0One of the most powerful aspects of Wordpress is the use of plugins to add automation to the process of posting and publicizing your content on the internet. Internet marketers use a different subset of plugins than other bloggers do and for good reason. Here are my favorites and why.

I started out building websites back in about 1998 I guess, with Microsoft Publisher, and although things have changed a lot since those days I still find the process of building a website interesting and exciting. I almost never open Microsoft Publsiher anymore unless it is to make a tag for my wifes scrapbooking projects and I now have settled on Wordpress.
The move from just static sites to blogs took a while but a few years ago I started a couple of blogger blogs and then moved up to my own Movable Type installation and now I have transferred almost everything to Wordpress. Wordpress to me is fantastic because the software gives me options that would take years for me to develop myself.
You don’t believe me? Well here is a list of why Wordpress is king:
1. Easy to install - I have installed Wordpress a few times and all I need is hosting, a MySQL database (included with my hosting) FTP access and a web browser to do the click click click thing. No problems and it works all the time as long as the host is stable.
2. Lots of themes - No matter what kind of look that you want for your site, someone has created that look as a wordpress theme, just download, unzip, upload and select
3. Lots of plugins - There are plugins for everything from autoblogging to RSS and tagging and I am finding more and more useful Wordpress plugins everyday. I search Google and find what I need.
4. Consistency and process flow - If I find a new extension or a new SEO method that I can use or even a new theme (as I did with Manidog that i use here), I can quickly go through all of my blogs and add that change easily to all of them at once. I set up a little process flow and 10 minutes later I am done. I even use a little process to upgrade Wordpress itself when I upgrade and this way nothing is ever missed.
Since everything is in Wordpress and my Firefox has links to all of my blogs it is very easy for me to add content when it is time for that and to update and upgrade when it is time for that and the two never have to meet. If I find something great to post I just post it and move on. There are no HTML tags to worry about and no uploading process so the new content is a thought and a click and that allows me to be a lot more creative.

Well this is my first post with the new upgrade of wordpress 2.1. I am excited to be starting with a new version of this fantastic blogging software with all of the new features and fixes. My only two issues so far is that my previously unused blogroll seems to be broken in the sidebar and that I have to go to the “code” tab to add a hyperlink. Have to try this more for the next few days but I am also excited to see that Matt has decided to do a regular feature release schedule with Wordpress with the next update slated for April 23rd.
Happy Blogging!
