Creating your blogs
Now that you have hopefully found yourself a niche it is time to look at how you are going to set up your blog. The choices of places to get a blog are almost endless as the blogging boom of the last few years has given everyone a chance to start a blog easily and for free.
There are two choices of a platform for hosting a blog. You can either have a blog that you control on your server or you can use a service on the internet that hosts your blog for you. The choice is up to you but of course I have my own opinion of what is the best way.
Self Hosted Blog
A self hosted blog is one where you get web space and then add your blog to that web space. I do not want to get into the details of who to use for this exactly but for probably about $10 per month you can get a package that will include Linux web space and a MySQL server. Are you a techy? If so great and if not it is a very easy process of uploading files and following some directions. I used Movable Type in this way for years now and have recently moved to WordPress for the majority of my blogs. Although there is a learning curve here and a chance that you will bog yourself down in the fun techy stuff this is easily the most powerful option.
Web Hosted Blog
Well the next choice for a blog is to use a service that does this hosting for you and you are just up and running sometimes in only a few seconds. You have probably seen web hosted blogs like blogger or wordpress.com sites and these sites are easy and free to set up. There is nothing much to say about complexity of these services, most will allow you to add your own affiliate or even adsense links and even change the look and feel of your blog including uploading pictures or videos with your content, but will of course not give you the control that a self hosted blog can have. The real advantage of this though is convenience. One thing that I believe though that is really important is to make sure that oyu go the extra mile and get you domain. Nothing looks cheaper than a domain called “mymoneymakingsite.blogspot.com” and a hotmail address to contact you. Most services will allow you to buy a domain from them and host it and this should not cost oyu more than a few dollars a month at most.
Conclusion
So which way to go to host your blog? Well I know that I started out by using blogger.com and it worked out for me quite well and gave me a taste of the excitement of instant web publishing but eventually once I had a good feel for what it takes to get a blog that I hosted and have control over I moved almost everything over to that route. I believe that his is a good practice as you start. The most important thing about blogging is not the control over the blog that you have but the content that you create and how that content will bring visitors to your offers that you are hoping to make money from.
