I have a big office in the basement with a couple of computers and another connection for a laptop. I also have a big whiteboard and a giant roll of white paper. Why do I mention this? Because I am here right now in the basement trying to figure out where to really focus my business over the next year.
I tend to be kind of crappy at barinstorming in my own head. I can come up with ideas and content in my head but as far as strategy goes I really get bogged down in what I should focus on and doing those business building kinds of things.
So my whiteboard right now has a bunch of process type stuff for articles creation and deployment. Everything from article content creation and keyword foxus to bio box creation.
I also have a piece of 2 foot by 2 foot paper with sites and pages to focus on, Sales funnell focus, and traffic strategies. This piece of paper lets me see what I should always be focused on.
Now I have a new piece of paper where I want to do two thing, I want to see that processes that I do not have in place yet (another post altogether) and the things that I want to focus on over the next year including the amount of time I want to focus on each. Here are the things that I should focus on for next year, a bit of a straw dog really as I am just getting started. I also start each with the percent of time I want to focus on the subject. This is real work not just reading posts and playing around online.
Content Creation
50% of my time next year. This would be a focus between content for current blogs as well as new ebooks or other money generating content. I have been not great over the last year and even though I have added a lot of content to the internet it has not been very keyword focussed so there are a lot of articles and posts that I have written that I have not gotten a lot of traffic to. One more thing that I have to look at now is to write a lot more product reviews to have more pages to build links and visitors to.
Community Building
20% of my time next year. Building of my social marketing presence. Things like Twitter, Facebook, Stumbleupon, HubPages, Niche Forums, Digg and others as the year goes on. I have started to do this a lot more this year as have a lot of others but I really need to start making inroads to building social profiles based on my various sites and niches.
Promotion
10% of my time next year. This would be the promotion that I do of my current sites or even the future sites. I use Article Marketing, content to various sites and the building of Backlinks. I am pretty happy with the work that I do on buidling backlinks but I have not got enough pages that I need to build links to (reviews)
Creation of new niche sites
10% of my time next year. This would be Niche Identification, Keyword Research, and the deployment of new sites. I can do this quite easily at this point but want to do more of this in the next year. I probably have about 50 niche sites but really many of these are crap. If I could build another 50 I would be happy. I know in my head I fight between buidling one fantastic site or to build 100 great little sites instead. I really do though need to make sure that I split my income sources to make sure I do not get caught with slow seasonal markets or even dying markets that I rely on.
Blog and site optimizing
10% of my time next year. I have wasted a lot of time over the last year doing this. I do lots of SEO, Plugins deployed, and optimizing the themes that I have so that they are more and more focussed on making money and conversion.
So this is where I sit tonight, this is a living document over the next week or so for me as I try to really have a good focus going into the new year. I will try to update this in the next week and let you all know what will be my finaly business plan.

Hi Bill.
I am impressed! You have a plan. Most people don’t and that’s why most fail to achieve any meaningful results on line. I have been slugging away since May 2006 and have just begun to make some serious money. Why did it take so long? Because I didn’t have a plan! Now, I do.
It’s difficult to stay focused with all the latest schemes flooding our email Inboxes. Now, I don’t even check my email until all tasks are done for the day. And, you know what? I never miss anything important. Imagine that!
Best of luck, Bill!

It is great to have plans for new year. But the most important thing is to execute it in right manner. I think you have worked hard to make plans, so you are definitely going to achieve it
