I have just upgraded a couple of my blogs to the Release Candidate of WordPress 3.1. And it is very nice indeed.
WordPress 3.1 RC1 was released on Christmas day and I just caught wind of it this morning. All you need to do to try it out is to install the WordPress beta tester plugin, activate, select Bleeding Edge Nightlies, and you can go ahead and get the newest install.
So what is new in WordPress 3.1 RC1
Well the colors are a bit different in the admin panels, it is defaulting to a nice easy to ready light blue color and more importantly just like WordPress.com sites you now have an admin bar at the top of the page while you are logged in viewing your own blog.
Just imagine how awesome this would be if the WordPress login would authenticate so that you could easily do a gravatar like login to comment on other WordPress blogs that are not part of the wordpress.com blog network
New Features in WordPress 3.1
- Redesigned theme admin panel – Smoother flowing now
- Easier interlinking of posts – When you select to hyperlink there is a drop down of all of your posts in a box to pick on to link to
- New Version of Tiny MCE – Seems to fix some IE9 issues but really I can not see a difference in Chrome or Firefox
- New post types – So as we know we have pages and posts. Well now there will be other post types so that if your theme supports it you could have a tweet type post or a link or a quote or a gallery. Seems like a good future type upgrade.
I always like to keep really current with my WordPress install as you get these new little features and it keeps everything rock solid. I know that many many people are using and testing this WordPress 3.1 RC1 release so it seems ready for prime time and I have upgraded two of my three biggest blogs to it now
